Join us for Organic Field Day at the Pacific Northwest Organic Center (PNWOC)!

Participants will have the opportunity to interact one-on-one with Rodale Institute Pacific Northwest Organic Center staff and team of Organic Consultants,  and learn about our research and demonstration projects focused on organic agriculture and tailored for farmers in the Pacific Northwest. This event is ideal for researchers, students, educators and all farmers, whether you are interested in learning more about organic farming, have an interest in consulting services to transition to organic, or are currently a Pacific Northwest organic farmer. Attendance is $15 per person lunch will be provided at the event.

Event Highlights:

Composting – Rick Carr, Senior Farm Director and Master Composter

Composting can satisfy two needs in agriculture: managing waste and improving soil health for crop production. Join Rick Carr, Senior Farm Director, at the PNWOC for an overview of on-farm compost production. Learn about solid waste management, composting logistics, economics, feedstock management, compost utilization and benefits, as well as the physical, biological, and chemical characteristics of finished compost. Mr. Carr will also review the organic standards related to composting.

Organic blueberry management – Tim Colton, Farm Manager, PNWOC

Farm Manager Tim Colton will be speaking on the foundations of organic blueberry management, against the backdrop of some of the oldest continually organic managed blueberries in Washington.  Topics covered will include site preparation, maintaining soil health, weed management and pest/disease management.

FREE Farm Consultations – Nathanael Gonzales-Siemens, Pacific Regional Consulting Manager

The Rodale Consulting team is excited to offer free individual sessions for farmers or brands interested in finding out more about how Organic and Regenerative Organic Certification can fit into their business plans. Half hour slots will be available and can be used to discuss any of the following topics: Certification of land, crops or a product line. Agronomics. Crop rotation plans. Cover Crops, Animal integration. Marketing. On-farm research. Grants and financial support.
