Organic Dry Beans: Roller Crimper Research & Market Opportunities Field Walk & Buyer Tour

In 2022, Tuxedo Farms, in collaboration with Soil Health Services and Rodale Institute, received funding from Western SARE to research the adaptation of organic no-till systems on Colorado’s Western Slope. Building on that work, the farm was awarded a USDA Agricultural Marketing Service Organic Market Development Grant (OMDG) in 2024 to establish a certified organic dry bean cleaning and processing facility in Olathe, Colorado.

Since receiving the OMDG award, the project has made significant progress—from conducting market research and engaging regional buyers to purchasing key processing equipment and advancing plans for the facility. These efforts are helping lay the foundation for expanded organic dry bean processing capacity and stronger regional markets for growers.

What can participants expect?
Enjoy a casual morning featuring updates on the Western SARE and OMDG projects, a tour of tilled and organic no-till dry bean field trials, a look at the progress toward the new processing facility, and opportunities to connect with buyers, farmers, and project partners. There will be plenty of time for discussion, questions, and networking.
