Learn how to compost effectively in your backyard, no matter how much space you have. Our expert staff will help you quickly identify and troubleshoot compost problems, and teach you how to harvest and use your finished compost for improved plant health and growth.

This class, taught by Rodale Institute’s compost production specialist Rick Carr, is designed for anyone who wants to compost at home but isn’t sure how to get started. Through lecture and one-on-one demonstration, you’ll be able to ask questions and get personalized assistance.

You’ll learn:

  • How to choose the right type and size of bin
  • How to choose the right location for your compost pile
  • How to best manage compost materials throughout the year
  • Preventing problems with pests and insects
  • Harvesting techniques
  • The basics of compost science and biology

The presentation will take place at Rodale Institute’s new compost demonstration site, though brief lectures will be held inside in the case of inclement weather.

Organic Farmers Association members receive 25% off all workshops. If you are a veteran, you may be eligible to attend educational events for free. Please email veterans@rodaleinstitute.org for details.

Online registration closes at 2 PM EST the day prior to the scheduled date.
