$60
backyard chickens

Keeping backyard chickens takes time and commitment, but the many benefits that come with that small flock of birds make it well worth it. While many of us think first of fresh, pastured-raised eggs, the free fertilizer and having a reliable, lovely companion, are as important.

Our experts will help you discover how easy it is to start raising your own chickens. This class focuses on:

  • Picking the perfect breed
  • Options for coops and housing
  • How to source your chicks and materials
  • Daily care and cleaning
  • How to feed and keep chickens healthy
  • How to protect your flock from predators

You’ll take home a list of books and other resources that will simplify your project and shorten the time from start to finish.

Tuition: $60/person.

If you are a veteran, you may be eligible to attend educational events for free. Please email veterans@rodaleinstitute.org for details.
