Mid-Large Scale Organic Grain Production in the Central Great Plains

Léa Vereecke, organic agronomist based in Colorado, will facilitate casual gatherings on organic grain
farms with a small-mid size group to discuss what can be seen and what is relevant to organic production on the farm: crops, pests, diseases, production methods, infrastructure, equipment, novel techniques, etc.
The tour will feature Bella Farms and Haffner Farms. Bella Farms is a parallel operation with both conventional and organic certified acres. Haffner farm is in its 2nd year of transition to organic and will be eligible for certification in 2025.
The field walk will feature:
- Soybeans grown together with barley
- Corn no-tilled into a rolled down mix of cereal rye and hairy vetch
- Equipment for large-scale organic grain farming
Who should sign up:
Prospective, transitioning, or already-certified organic grain farmers in Eastern Colorado, Western Nebraska, Western Kansas, Western Oklahoma.
