Volunteer at Rodale Institute!

Like most non-profits, we rely on volunteers to help us carry out our important work. When you contribute your time and talents to Rodale Institute, you’re helping us to continue our mission of pioneering organics. We’re always looking for volunteers in the following areas:

Our gardening department manages the beneficial insects garden, demonstration plot, and medicinal garden, as well as many of the beds you see around the farm. They also manage our greenhouse plant production.

The ASC department manages the crops out in our fields which involves planting, transplanting, cultivating and harvesting in the summer months. They also process all the harvested produce and take it to market as well as to our CSA shareholders.

Our research team works on a variety of projects both outdoors often collecting samples, and indoors processing them for research.

Our farm/garden store is open Thursdays through Saturdays and sells all kinds of things from our own farm raised pork to Rodale t-shirts to farming books and tools. Work up at the store is less physical, and consists of things like light cleaning, unpacking shipments and arranging displays.

The Institute has markets every Thursday and Saturday, but is always working on food access and education in the nearby Allentown area. Our market coordinator organizes things like cooking demonstrations, nutrition education and survey data collection.

Whether it be an organic plant sale or our annual Apple Festival, we are are always looking for a few extra hands to help out at our events.

Annual Organic Apple Festival
We have many different jobs that we need volunteers for. Some of them include helping at Apple checkout, greeting guests and helping direct them in our apple orchard, assist at our food stand, help with the kid zone, and also help direct parking. Volunteers for this day will receive a free tshirt along with a food and beverage voucher to use at lunch.
