Event Description:

Rodale Institute and the Mid-Atlantic Farm-Based Educators Network (FBEN) have scheduled a networking and practice event for educators who work with K-12 students in agriculture, natural resources, and nutrition education.

The event is designed as a full day of lesson sharing, program development, marketing, and a tour of the Rodale Institute!

Agenda:

9:00 - 9:15      Welcome and registrations

9:15 - 10:00    Group Introductions

10:00 - 11:30   Farm-based Education

•What is it? History of the national FBEN and the beginnings of the Mid-Atlantic regional network

•K-8/ K-12/undergrad-graduate/internships/adult education

•Modes of delivery: field trips, workshops, field days, etc.

11:30-12:00   Rodale Institute and its long history of farm-based agricultural education: History, audiences, overview of educational topics and models.

12:00-12:15   A Microscope on Every Farm: a 2013 initiative of the Rodale Institute

12:15- 1:15     Lunch and networking time

1:15 - 3:00     Farm tour of the Rodale Institute's 333 acres of research/education and production farm

3:00 - 3:30    Planning for the Future: review of network goals and planning for further professional development activities

3:30 -              Departure

This event is open to all educators who are interested in using the farm as a learning environment.
