Straw Bale Gardening

Event Description:

Join Tiny Terra Ferma and April Johnson from the Rodale Institute for a fun, informative, hand-on workshop to prepare and plant a Straw Bale Garden.

Straw Bales are the new "unusual container garden" on the block. They provide a warm, hospitable, weed-free, and beautiful space for vegetables and flowers to grow. They're perfect for challenging urban environments or to add aesthetic to a big backyard garden.  No previous gardening experience is necessary to attend this workshop!

During the workshop, April will demonstrate how to condition the straw bale for ultimate growth, how and what to plant, how to maintain your straw bale garden, and what to do with your bale when the gardening season is over.

After the demonstration, stick around the backyard with Annie and Jeff from Tiny Terra Ferma as they help you to artfully design and plant your own Straw Bale Garden. Take it home that afternoon!

Cost of the entire workshop (demonstration + Straw Bale Gardening Kit + and hands-on planting guidance) is $65. Cost to watch the demonstration only (does not include Straw Bale Garden Kit or planting guidance) is $10.
