DESCRIPTION:Come spend the Summer Solstice in the healing\, medicinal gardens at Rodale Institute and enjoy learning about the wonder of herbalism.\nWe will gather under the shaded Pavilion in the heart of the garden and begin our time sharing wisdom and sipping herbal tea infusions made from the plants growing around us. Our tour through the intimate garden will include the medicinal properties of plants such as Calendula\, Yarrow\, Lemon Balm\, St. John’s Wort\, Comfrey\, Holy Basil\, and more! \nFollowing the tour\, we will demonstrate how to make a medicinal topical infused oil with St. John’s Wort flowers and Comfrey harvested from the garden. We hope that you will feel inspired to continue incorporating these herbal allies into your own garden and life! \nAfterwards\, we invite you to join us for a celebratory & ceremonial bonfire in honor of the Summer Solstice. Inventory includes a wide selection of books\, gardening and kitchen tools\, apparel and specialty foods and organic treats perfect for your holiday gifts. Our visiting vendors will have the perfect gifts for the season as well. Browse the farms’ library of books\, which will be part of a donation based book sale. \nFamilies can enjoy warm drinks around the fire pit and take a photo with Santa for extra holiday joy from 1pm-3pm. Bring your own camera and snag that perfect holiday shot on a decorated wagon. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own holiday wreath or candle. Customers can also get the latest seasonal tips from our expert gardeners. \nAnd to celebrate Earth Day\, we will have local craft vendors and food trucks\, educational kids’ activities\, live music\, two screenings of the film “To Which We Belong\,” yoga activities (bring your own yoga mat and wear loose clothing)\, and opportunities for volunteers to assist with farm chores.

DESCRIPTION:Want to impress your friends and family this summer with your beautiful tomatoes? Try grafting to build up immunity\, reduce disease\, and combat plant stress. \nThis workshop will show experienced and inexperienced growers and farmers the ancient art of grafting\, combining classroom presentation and hands-on practice for a well-rounded educational experience. We will discuss the science behind the graft as well as how grafting can impact the yields and health of the plants. All participants will receive two grafted tomato plants\, a copy of the in-class PowerPoint presentation\, and instructions on how to care for their new tomato plants. Space is limited\, pre-registration is required. \nTuition: $60/person. \nIf you are a veteran\, you may be eligible to attend educational events for free.
