SUMMARY:Composting 101
DESCRIPTION:Note: This event has been cancelled due to weather. Thank you for understanding\, and we are sorry for the inconvenience.\nEarth Day may have passed\, but the impact continues! Join us for Composting 101 and learn how to reduce waste\, nourish the soil\, and support a more sustainable future! \nManaging a large-scale compost operation requires heavy equipment\, but home gardeners only need a few tools and a little guidance to get started. Join us on Saturday\, April 25 for Composting 101\, our first in-person workshop of the year\, to learn how to turn food scraps and yard waste into a powerful amendment for your growing space. \nThis workshop will be led by Jesse Barrett\, our Farm Operations Specialist. Jesse has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from William Paterson University of New Jersey. Soon after college\, Jesse spent over fifteen years as a high-volume kitchen and farm-to-table\, fine-dining restaurant manager. His experiences as a restaurant manager led him to the realization that there were major flaws in how our food system operates. Passionate to make a change\, Jesse is now a Farm Operations Specialist and looks forward to improving our local and national food system through regenerative organic agriculture. Most recently\, Jesse has been training as a compost production specialist for Rodale Institute. This includes the management of the compost yard and maintaining the compost production in accordance with the National Organic Program standards.

SUMMARY:RESCHEDULED — Summer Lecture Series: Philosophies of Starting a Farm
DESCRIPTION:** Due to unforeseen circumstances\, this event has been rescheduled from its original date of June 23. \n \nPresented by: Dan Kemper\, Master Trainer \nFarming can be one of the most rewarding careers available in this day and age\, but it comes with plenty of grief and stress. Starting a new farm can be even harder\, especially for first generation farmers who did not grow up learning the trade. \nThis evening lecture will focus on the philosophy of beginning a farm\, and what can be expected during the process. After 10 years of training new/aspiring farmers to begin their careers in organic agriculture\, Dan Kemper will share his experiences over the last decade\, and critically discuss intentions\, goals\, and hurdles of starting an organic farm.\n  \n\n\n \n Browse other lectures in our Summer Lecture Series: See Other Events\n

SUMMARY:CANCELED — Summer Lecture Series: Genetic Engineering in Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately\, due to unforeseen circumstances\, we have had to cancel this event. Browse other lectures in our Summer Lecture Series here: \nSee Other Events\n  \nPresented by: Sam Malriat\, Director\, Organic Consulting\n \nThe development of genetically engineered crops in the United States allowed for a drastic increase in overall crop yields and productivity. However\, it also set off a cascade of consequences that\, to this day\, continues to affect our health\, our food system\, sensitive off-target organisms\, and the environment. \nJoin us to explore the roots of genetic engineering\, its development over time\, and understand how it is used today. This lecture presented by Rodale Institute’s Director of Organic Consulting\, Sam Malriat\, seeks to share impartial information about genetic engineering so attendees can leave with a balanced perspective on its role in agriculture and more effectively discuss it with their peers.\n \n PLEASE NOTE: This is an in-person event—a virtual option is not available. \n\n\n
