Dr. Gladis Zinati, Associate Research Scientist at Rodale Institute has received an award of $5,000 from the Pennsylvania Vegetable Growers Association’s Pennsylvania Vegetable Marketing and Research Program to fund a research project entitled “Impact of Insectary Strips to Control Cucumber Beetles.” The funding from PVGA will supplement a currently-funded project from the PA Department of Agriculture for sampling and collection of data on cucumber beetle population and cucumber production with and without insectary strips during 2017 growing season. The results will validate the impact of established insectary strips on beneficial insect conservation and cucumber beetle control. Information gained from this project will be communicated to vegetable crop growers using educational venues.
