DESCRIPTION:Managing a large-scale compost operation may require heavy equipment—but for home gardeners\, getting started is much simpler than you think.\nJoin us for Composting 101: Compost Like a Pro and learn how to transform everyday food scraps and yard waste into a nutrient-rich amendment for your garden. \nIn this hands-on\, in-person workshop\, we’ll break down the fundamentals of composting\, including what materials to use\, how to maintain a healthy compost system\, and simple techniques to ensure success at home. \nWhether you’re looking to reduce waste\, improve your soil\, or take a more sustainable approach to gardening\, this workshop will give you the tools and confidence to get started. \nMeet Your Instructor\nJesse holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from William Paterson University of New Jersey. After college\, he spent over fifteen years working as a manager in high-volume kitchens and farm-to-table\, fine-dining restaurants. \nThrough this experience\, Jesse recognized critical gaps in our food system and became passionate about driving meaningful change. He now serves as a Farm Operations Specialist\, focused on improving local and national food systems through regenerative organic agriculture. \nMost recently\, Jesse has been training as a compost production specialist with Rodale Institute\, where he manages the compost yard and ensures production aligns with National Organic Program standards.

We’ll explore techniques for working with dried materials\, layering texture\, and creating arrangements. \nWhether you’re decorating your home for Thanksgiving or simply looking for a creative way to embrace the season\, you’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind piece to take home and enjoy. \nMeet Your Instructor\nThis workshop will be led by Shawn Brown\, former owner of the renowned Lehigh Valley “Jackie and Daughter Flower Shop.” Shawn is now the Senior Visitor Experience Manager at Rodale Institute\, where she beautifies the farm by sourcing materials from the natural surroundings. \nShawn studied with the American Institute of Floral Designers and brings a thoughtful\, seasonal approach to her designs—blending natural materials with artistic technique. She loves helping others create meaningful\, beautiful pieces inspired by the time of year.
