Responsible for managing the St. Luke’s Rodale Institute Organic Farm Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program through St. Luke’s Employee Wellness department. The farm is a partnership between Rodale Institute and St. Luke’s Hospital to create an innovative farm-to-institute model.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate the St. Luke’s-Rodale Institute Organic Farm’s 225-member CSA program
  • Support the Farm Manager and Assistant Farm Manager at the St. Luke’s Hospital Anderson Campus daily
  • Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Use tractor to prepare fields for planting
  • Supervise planting
  • Pest management
  • Assist management of crop cultivations
  • Share watering and irrigation responsibilities
  • Work with supervisors to execute greenhouse production
  • Complete and follow the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) implemented by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)
  • Support the program to maintain organic certification
  • Execute farm’s growing schedule and meet with supervisor frequently to ensure planting of crops are sufficient and meet all organic certifications
  • Educate and train interns to carry out day-to-day activities
  • Assist with creating pack lists for CSA shares
  • Coordinate CSA harvest and packing with Pack House Operations Specialist
  • Work with staff to write weekly CSA newsletters
  • Assist with building infrastructure

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Can express ideas clearly and professionally through CSA newsletters
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Hard worker and commitment to raising organic foods sustainably
  • Clear communicator with professional management skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred BA/BS in agriculture-related field
  • At least two years of experience in sustainable vegetable production and/or managing a CSA
