SUMMARY:Webinar: Research Update – Organic Control Strategies for Swine Parasites in Organic Pastured Pork Systems
DESCRIPTION:Intestinal parasites are a persistent problem in pastured pig systems\, but organic parasite control strategies are not reliable. In this webinar\, project leaders and farmers from Rodale Institute will provide research updates on a USDA NIFA Organic Transition grant-funded project focusing on organic parasite control through manure and pasture management. Updates include composting manure to destroy infective parasite eggs and biofumigation of soil to reduce parasite eggs in pasture. \nPresenters include Rick Carr\, Sara Major and Baylor Lansden. \n\nCompleting this form signs you up for electronic communications from Rodale Institute. SUMMARY:Webinar: Regenerative Agriculture and Soil Microbial Carbon Pump (MCP)
DESCRIPTION:In the past decade\, there has been a significant breakthrough in our understanding of soil organic matter formation and the carbon cycle. Now we increasingly know that humus actually may not exist in soil\, and soil microbes not just are responsible for decomposition\, but also contribute directly to soil organic matter formation. This brand new mechanistic understanding has been described as the soil “microbial carbon pump (MCP).” \nDoes this theory explain why regenerative agriculture builds soil carbon? How can we utilize this conceptual advancement to guide actual practices to improve soil carbon storage? In this webinar\, Dr. Yichao Rui will introduce this paradigm shift and discuss how we can harness the power of regenerative agriculture and revitalize the soil “MCP” to effectively regenerate soil carbon. \n\nCompleting this form signs you up for electronic communications from Rodale Institute. SUMMARY:Film: The Biggest Little Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a community screening of the documentary film The Biggest Little Farm in Rodale Institute’s theater. \nThe Biggest Little Farm chronicles one California couple’s journey into the world of organic farming—never shying away from showing their challenges\, but equally quick to celebrate their successes in turning a once-barren landscape into a thriving\, regenerative utopia. A Washington Post review calls this 2018 film a must-see “not just for the primer it offers in how foodways\, farming practices and larger environmental forces are crucially connected but for its dazzling imagery of nature in action…” \nThere is no fee for attending this event\, but Rodale Institute welcomes donations. No matter how large or small\, your donation goes a long way toward supporting Rodale Institute’s efforts to champion organics and create a healthier planet for all. \nSpace is limited\, pre-registration is required. \n\n \nCompleting this form signs you up for electronic communications from Rodale Institute. You can easily unsubscribe at any time.
