SUMMARY:Scaling Up for Organic Wholesale
DESCRIPTION:Wild Hope Farm is one of the Southeast’s leading USDA Certified Organic farms\, offering year-round diversified produce and cut flowers\, selling through multiple regional wholesale distributors\, farmers’ markets\, and a CSA program. \nFarmers Ben\, Mary\, and Peanut give a guided tour of the farm and walk participants through what it takes to scale up in the fields and the pack-house. They offer insights from their experience using riding versus walk-behind tractors\, considering field layout\, row spacing\, and cultivation\, adding haygroves to their high tunnel production\, and post-harvest practices to ensure wholesale readiness. \nKim facilitates a discussion with regional organic buyers about what it takes to move high-quality organic products successfully. Join this crew for an energizing on-farm experience and networking event focused on scaling organic production for wholesale success. \nRegister to Attend \n*This event is FREE and includes lunch\, but is reserved for farmers/producers and wholesale buyers. Attendees who are not farmers or buyers who register will be put on a waitlist. \n*Check-in starts at 8:30 AM* \n \n\nThis session is supported through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP). TOPP is a program of the USDA Organic Transition Initiative and is administered by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) National Organic Program (NOP).

SUMMARY:Webinar: Midwest Vegetable Systems Trial—Utilizing No-Till and Biochar to Improve Sustainability of Organic Vegetable Production
DESCRIPTION:A common practice for vegetable production is the use of black plastic mulch (BPM). BPM has its benefits\, but it also is expensive and creates a large amount of waste\, some of which ends up as microplastics in the soil. By using no-till management and deep mulch\, vegetable producers can reduce these expenses and plastic waste while also providing benefits to soil health. This webinar will discuss the Midwest Vegetables Systems Trial which combines different tillage management systems with the use of biochar as a soil amendment. Join us to learn more about biochar\, organic vegetable production in the Midwest\, and the various tillage management practices that can benefit soil health and reduce the labor needed for weeding. \nRegistration\n\n\n \n LinkedInThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n Zip/Postal Code*\n Register \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nCompleting this form automatically signs you up for electronic communications from Rodale Institute. SUMMARY:Hazelnut Field Day
DESCRIPTION:Rodale Institute will host an Organic Hazelnut Field Day on November 24 at our Pacific Northwest Organic Center. \nThe event will cover topics such as organic pest management\, fertility\, harvesting\, and value-added processes. Farmers and the public are invited to participate in the field walk (weather permitting)\, discussions\, and presentations by experts. \nThis field day will also highlight our ongoing organic hazelnut agroforestry research\, supported by the Edwards Mother Earth Foundation and the Northwest Community Foundation. We have established an orchard with European cultivars (Jefferson\, Yamhill\, Dorris\, Theta) and a native hazelnut species (Corylus cornuta). The project evaluates their performance under organic management and alleycropping systems to improve soil health and system resilience in the Pacific Northwest. This event is free\, but please register so we know you’re coming to get an accurate count for lunch. Schedule:\n 10:00 AM –   1:00 PM \n\nRegistration:\nSorry\, this event is at capacity. \nCompleting this form automatically signs you up for electronic communications from Rodale Institute. You can easily unsubscribe at any time. This event is funded by the USDA Northwest Transition to Organic Partnership Program (NW TOPP).

Please visit our webinar webpage for more events like this.\nJoin us for an insightful webinar exploring the impact of different mulching systems on organic vegetable production. \nWe’ll discuss how various mulches—black plastic\, no mulch\, compost\, wood mulch\, and living mulch (growing marigolds between vegetable rows)—influence weed and pest pressure\, as well as the yield and quality of organic peppers. This session will also present key findings from our 2023 and 2024 research\, offering valuable insights into sustainable alternatives to plastic mulch. Learn about practical\, eco-friendly mulching strategies that can help organic growers improve productivity while maintaining soil health. Whether you’re an experienced grower or just starting with organic vegetables\, this webinar will equip you with knowledge to build a more resilient and profitable organic system. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn\, connect\, and grow!
