SUMMARY:Webinar: Ancient Wheat: The Old Grain with Prospects
DESCRIPTION:Today’s bread is dominated by modern bread wheat that was developed during the “Green Revolution” of the mid-20th century. Ancient wheat may not be mainstream to feed billions of people in 2050\, but ancient varieties have some nutritional advantages. In addition\, unlike modern wheat\, plant growth and biomass can be valuable agronomic characteristics to use when thinking of reduced tillage. Join Dr. Zinati in this webinar to discuss the differences between wheat varieties and nutritional variation among modern\, heritage\, and ancient wheat. This project is supported in part by the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR). \n\n \n InstagramThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n Zip/Postal Code*\n Register \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nCompleting this form signs you up for electronic communications from Rodale Institute. SUMMARY:Webinar: Climate-Smart Project Update
DESCRIPTION:This webinar aims to educate participants about the Southern Piedmont Climate-Smart Project. This project is growing regenerative agriculture in the southeast. This $25 million project has over $6 million in cash and non-cash incentives for organic and conventional farmers\, farmers markets\, and market producers participating in the project and located in the Southern Piedmont. Working throughout the Southeastern U.S.\, we’re partnering with vegetable farmers to adopt farming methods that support the local ecosystem. We’re also helping farmers markets promote the climate-smart crops grown in the study. \nAt this state in the project\, we are still in the process of recruiting conventional and naturally grown/organic farmers. If you can’t participate or aren’t in the Piedmont\, but you know someone who is\, please reach out to project lead\, Dr. Kristie Wendelberger (kristie.wendelberger@rodaleinstitute.org) \n\n \n X/TwitterThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n Zip/Postal Code*\n Register \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nCompleting this form signs you up for electronic communications from Rodale Institute. In this webinar\, Rodale Institute crop consultants and guests will compare tine weeding models and discuss tine weeding strategies to improve early season weed control for corn and soybeans. The webinar will cover newly available models and commonly available used options\, as well as resources for farmers to improve decision making about timing and aggressiveness of tine weeding passes. \n\n \n NameThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n Zip/Postal Code*\n Register \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nCompleting this form signs you up for electronic communications from Rodale Institute. SUMMARY:Webinar: Ecosystem Services of Regenerative Organic Agriculture Practices
DESCRIPTION:Sometimes\, organic alone is considered as standard for food production\, while regenerative agriculture as an adaptive management approach that is supported by soil health principles. Regenerative organic agricultural practices incorporate management principles focused on land management to sequester carbon in the soil and prioritize welfare of farm animals and fairness for farmers and workers. In this presentation\, we will be discussing its services such as soil nutrient cycling\, carbon sequestration\, abundant microbial communities\, and healthy crop production. \n\n \n PhoneThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n Zip/Postal Code*\n Register \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nCompleting this form signs you up for electronic communications from Rodale Institute. SUMMARY:Webinar: How to Build Soil Organic Matter in Organic Grain Systems
DESCRIPTION:Join our Organic Consultants\, Catherine Peebles\, Léa Vereecke\, and Nic Podoll\, to learn about building soil organic matter in organic grain systems. Soil organic matter is a key indicator of soil health and is associated with water holding capacity\, aggregate stability\, nutrient availability\, and inherent soil fertility. Thus\, maintaining good levels of organic matter will help grow healthy crops. Our consultants will discuss how it is derived\, the balance between gains and losses\, and different management practices’ influence on soil organic matter. \n\n \n FacebookThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n Zip/Postal Code*\n Register \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nCompleting this form signs you up for electronic communications from Rodale Institute. SUMMARY:Webinar: Hemp Production in Regenerative Organic Agroecosystems
DESCRIPTION:Hemp\, with approximately 50\,000 declared uses\, has been grown in North America since the 17th century. Hemp is grown for a variety of purposes such as fiber production and paper industry\, cosmetics\, medicinal properties and in the creation of construction material. C. sativa\, with hundreds of phytocannabinoids\, terpenoids\, flavonoids and fatty acids\, is recognized as a plant with a rich chemical profile. \nFor more than 50 years\, hemp production was restricted in the United States until the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 directed the USDA to develop a regulatory framework for hemp production. Just in 2020\, over 520 licenses were issued in the state of Pennsylvania to establish over 3\,100 acres of hemp fields and greenhouses.  \n\n \n LinkedInThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n Zip/Postal Code*\n Register \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nCompleting this form signs you up for electronic communications from Rodale Institute. SUMMARY:CANCELLED: Webinar: The ABCs of Augmentative Biological Control
DESCRIPTION:Due to unforeseen circumstances\, this webinar has been cancelled. \nWhen pest populations climb\, beneficial insects in the environment can have difficulty controlling the situation. They need backup and farmers often turn to augmentative biological control\, or biocontrol. Releasing mass-reared insects like ladybeetles\, minute pirate bug\, lacewings\, etc. is a great way to quickly tackle pest pressure but there are best management practices farmers should follow in order to increase their efficacy. This presentation will walk through how to choose a biocontrol and best practices for releasing them.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Growing Industrial Hemp as a Multipurpose Crop in Organic Cropping Systems
DESCRIPTION:Commercial hemp (Cannabis sativa) production ceased throughout the U.S. in the early 1940s due to its close relationship to the marijuana plant. Thus\, little to no research on industrial hemp has been conducted over the past eighty years in the U.S. At Rodale Institute\, we have been investigating hemp as a nitrogen moderator in the hemp-malt barley (Hordeum vulgare) cropping system. \nIn this webinar\, our research scientist\, Dr. Madhav Dhakal will discuss nitrogen management in rotational organic no-tillage and conventional tillage systems with a focus on cover crop utilization. Current research demonstrates the influence of winter cover crops [hairy vetch (Vicia villosa) + field pea (Pisum sativum)] on nitrogen use efficiency\, yield\, and quality of hemp fiber and malt barley under two tillage [conventional tillage (CT) vs. no-tillage (NT)] practices and four supplemental nitrogen rates (0\, 50\, 100\, and 150 kg N ha˗1) in hemp and barley cropping system. \nLearn more about Rodale Institute’s weed management program here. \n\n \n CommentsThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n Zip/Postal Code*\n Register \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nCompleting this form signs you up for electronic communications from Rodale Institute.
