Young farmer gets land and gets started

Caroline Hampton has been farming for four years, but 2014 will be the first year she’s has her own piece of land. Leasing from the F.I.G Project (Farm Incubator and Grower Project) in Valle Crucis, North Carolina, Caroline is looking forward to serving the progressive mountain community with good organic and sustainable food. She’ll also be sharing her beginning farmer experiences here with us. Here is a little bit about Caroline and her farm, Octopus Garden…

I love what you are doing and I aspire to follow in your footsteps with my own farm some day. Write now I am in college and I came across this page as I research sustainable agriculture and most specifically how to start one. If you have the time I would love to learn more about the steps, costs and equipment necessary to begin, especially as you are going through the process right now. Please send me an email if you can provide me any information or even just direct me to a good website. Thanks for your time and I wish you the best with your new farm!
