Water is one of our most precious resources, and we’re literally flushing it down the drain.

As an alternative to traditional systems, we designed the Water Purification Eco-Center. This facility is an effective on-site wastewater treatment system that captures rainwater and uses it several times before returning it to the soil as clean water.

The facts on clean water

  • Less than 1% of all water on earth is
    potable and available for use

  • The average American household uses 400 gallons of water per day

How the facility Works

  1. Rainwater runs off the roof and into a catchment system that flows to a cistern underneath the building.
  2. The rainwater is then used to flush toilets, after which it flows into another storage tank where water and solid waste are separated.
  3. The water is sent into a wetland area where the plants and surrounding microbes scrub and clean the wastewater.
  4. Finally, the clean water flows through a drip-irrigation system to nearby perennial gardens.
