Biofuels trading scam makes a mockery of global warming concerns

They come to the United States in huge tankers loaded with biofuel. They add a little bit of U.S. gasoline, turn around and go home. In the process and thanks to U.S. subsidies for green fuel products, ag-product traders are netting up to 11 pence per liter for the whole load, according the Guardian. On top of all that, the fuel is then sold at lower than domestic prices, effectively undercutting Europe’s biofuels industry. It’s estimated that about 10 percent of all biofuel shipped from the U.S. to Europe is tainted by the legal though dubious practice, and regulators intend to put a stop to it.
