This class with Dr. Elaine Ingham is entirely focused on microscope use and soil microorganisms identification. The program is structured in a 3-day format with a class scheduled for Friday, August 2 followed by two days of supervised hands-on microscope practice on August 3 and 4/2013. You have the choice to register for the Full Package (three days) or individual days, as they fit your personal schedule. The Full Package allows participants to use fresh information gained in the August 2 course to refine their skills in the use of a microscope to assess the quality of soil, compost and compost teas/extracts.
The August 2 class includes a morning set-up and operation technique section followed by preparation of soil/compost materials for microscope examination. The rest of the day will focus on identification of diverse groups of soil organisms. The following two days of the program (August 3 and 4) will utilize the knowledge gained in the microscope course to help you refine your identification skills under the supervision of Dr. Elaine Ingham and her Rodale team of researchers.

We require that participants bring their own microscope or rent one of ours for a daily fee of $50. We recommend a microscope with 4X, 10X, and 40X objective lenses (40X is critical), and 10X eyepieces. If you do not already have a microscope and would like to buy one, we negotiated a 10% discount with the company where we buy our microscopes. Here is a link to their page:
