Dr. Mercola features Honeybee Conservancy in report on colony collapse

Dr. Mercola, founder of mercola.com, bestselling author and osteopathic physician, interviewed Rodale Institute's very own Coach Mark Smallwood about our Honeybee Conservancy in a recent report on colony collapse disorder (CCD). The latest developments include the highest winter losses so far this year, struggles the almond industry experienced hiring bees to pollinate their orchards, and the lawsuit filed against the EPA over the neonicotinoid class of pesticides linked to CCD again and again. You can view the interview here, or read the full report at mercola.com.

In the spring of 2010 , we experimeted with a Tanzania Hive with a Langtroth medium honey box and it work pretty good. We used it as a honey super or adding a swarm to the existing weak hive or to transfered a new swarm Box to the Tanzania, now we changed to a hive box 96/8″ to harvest honey. Result we had a 10 frames honey supper with almost a 2 inch comb full of honey. We still experimenting we this configuration.

In the video, you mentioned you dont smoke the bees, but did no mentioned what you used to calm the bees? What species of bees? We have African A.M. Scutellata from the north of the sahara desert. This bees are mixed with the stablished bees, A.M.Lingustica(italiana) cereating a hybrid Africanized. Thank you Coach for youri insight. Blessings!!

I am also interested in what you do without smoke? Do you just move slowly and keep most of the top bars on? Do you wear a suit? Gloves?

Thanks and keep up the good work!
