Food safety witness discusses concerns, addresses benefits of organic

The House Agriculture Committee recently heard the testimonies of eight farm, consumer, and processor representatives in hearings dedicated to tackling concerns over the Food Safety Enhancement Act.  The most widespread qualms with the act included the $500 registration fee and the FDA’s increased role in the nation’s farms.

Nick Maravell, a Maryland based, small-scale organic farmer, told the Committee that small operations, such as his, “should be given incentives, not barriers, to continue their growth."
