Illinois General Assembly passes Local Food Farms and Jobs Act

Congratulations to the Illinois Local and Organic Food and Farm Task Force, whose dedication and effort resulted in the passage of legislation supporting local and organic agriculture.

The legislation creates incentives and opportunities for state-owned facilities and agencies to purchase local food, expanding food processing systems, and supporting urban agriculture projects. It also creates the Illinois Local Food, Farms, and Jobs Council to support food systems development. The plan is expected to generate $20 to $30 billion in economic activity and create job opportunities in agriculture and food-related enterprises.
