Carbon soon to be the new cash crop

Rodale Institute philosophy that farmers should be paid to sequester carbon is quickly becoming reality, as farmers across the corn belt profit from their credits on the Chicago Climate Exchange. Lawmakers now recognize that farmers can have untold impact on climate change and deserve a seat at the table. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has even called carbon “a new income source” that could “change the old ways of supporting farms,” giving new credence to the carbon-capturing advantages that Rodale believes organic and sustainable practices boast.
