Federal judge says hold off on GM crops in wildlife refuges
A federal judge in Delaware ruled that there was insufficient evidence to rule out the possibility of biological contamination from genetically modified crops planted in national wildlife refuges, potentially leading to increased weed resistance, damage to soils, and other unknown effects. In a reaffirmation of the uncertainties surrounding genetic engineering, he cited a lack of conclusive environmental studies by the Fish and Wildlife Agency to prove that the crops would be compatible with the goals of habitat preservation and conservation.
