Large-scale risks of biochar plantations promise questionable benefits, hazards believed to outweigh benefits

Large-scale biochar plantations are not the answer to saving the earth from climate change, says columnist George Monbiot. According to his analysis, the fast-growing species needed for the tree plantations destroyed “biodiversity…dried up river catchments, caused soil erosion when the land is ploughed for planting (meaning loss of soil carbon), exhausted nutrients and required so many pesticides that the run-off has poisoned marine fisheries.” Full story: The Guardian
