Catnip possible answer to stable flies
The Agricultural Research Service has found a fly repellent for the nation’s livestock in an unlikely place—catnip. Two compounds found in the feline favorite were proven to repel pesky stable flies that cost the farm industry an estimated $2 billion a year in diminished production efficiency. Scientists also found that the compounds deterred female flies from laying their eggs.
This is good news for many organic farmers who have long looked for natural ways to fend off stable flies.
