California court to enforce new pesticide regulation

In one of several recent court rulings that require public health be qualitatively considered in business decisions, a California court has decided that the Department of Pesticide Regulation must “consider health risks to farmworkers and residents when issuing fumigation regulations for methyl bromide.” The decision could reduce the amount of pesticide used for agriculture in the state. Current concentrations of methyl bromide allowed by the Department of Pesticide Regulation are much higher than those that are considered to be appropriate following recent studies by the department.
