Charter school teaches organic tenets

The Learning Gate Community School is unlike other schools. The children there tend to and learn about science in an organic garden and take hands-on classes in eco-friendly modular classrooms. Principal Patti Girard started the school 25 years ago with the goal of emphasizing the importance of the environment to her students. The school has earned recognition from several organizations and won the Organic School Garden Award from the Rodale Institute.
