Shoppers choose local over organic

These are turbulent times in the food business, and for the organic segment as well. A survey of shoppers who no longer purchase organic foods shows that 70 percent say it is now too expensive, 39 percent say they couldn’t tell its difference from non-organic food, and a third say  they are concerned about the safety of organic food. The same survey found that 50 percent of all shoppers said they would now choose locally grown food versus organic (preferred by 28 percent). Full story
