Ontario says "no" to cosmetic pesticides

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty announced a ban on the use and the sale of 80 chemicals and 300 lawn and garden pesticide products. The ban will be phased in over the course of 2008 and follows on the heels of a similar ban in Quebec in the fall of 2007. Home Depot Canada made an announcement that they will be eliminating their pesticide products as well as a number of other synthetic lawn and garden products. Their voluntary phase-out will include herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, slug baits, moss-control products and lawn fertilizers with weed control, and will take place in all Canadian provinces by the end of 2008. Unfortunately, Ontario's ban will not extend to farms, golf courses or managed forests. Full story
